As Outlook updates are installed this week I'm seeing a lot of questions that go something like this:. Overnight, Outlook changed dramatically. What happened and how do I get rid of all that annoying white space? This is due to some changes to the "new" Outlook interface, in part to make it more touch friendly, with elements farther apart and more padding. Fortunately, Microsoft included an option to reduce the wasted space. Look in the View tab for Use Tighter Spacing.
When Tighter spacing is enabled, the button will be highlighted. It's turned off in these screenshots. This will remove the padding around the To, CC, and Subject fields and also in the Message list, returning the header area to the original size, although without the outlines around the To, CC, and Subject fields.
This screenshot shows the new message header with wider spacing, the header with tighter spacing on, and the older message header for comparison. If you want to revert to an older version, set this registry key to drop to the semi-annual channel. You'll won't get the new features every month and can avoid the new design for a few months. Broad will get you new updates every 6 months, in Jan and July. You can use Targeted instead, to get the same updates a little earlier, in March and September instead.
This is exactly what I needed. For some reason, the design geniuses at MS seem to think it's "cool" to make everything hard to see.Reducing the space between the body and the footer in WordPress with CSS

On skins: the only difference between the really old versions of Outlook and now is the "skin" colors: we had better colors before green, blue, black compared to white, gray, black, or 'colorful'. Because the colors for all elements is so interconnected, i don't think we'll ever have the ability to 'skin' Office apps.

The problem is not with the sections themselves but actually with the heading and paragraph tags. The margins of them are extending beyond the height of the sections. There are multiple solutions detailed at Mastering Margin Collapsing but here is a quick and easy one.
Simply apply a little padding to the containers to contain any child element margins.
It looks like the margin from h1, h2 and p are extending past the borders of header, footer and section. You have a number of options here:. I think my favorite would be the overflow fix. Then I have to remove any section breaks that create large gaps of white space. If I remove the breaks, it changes the formatting of the category heading. How do I reapply the Heading 2 style? As you can see in this sample document, there is a big chunk of white space that needs to be removed after creating the new page. This is most likely caused by improper use of carriage returns, tabs, and spaces to format the document.
You need to delete the breaks that are causing layout problems. Now we see why the second section is located too far down the page! There are three extra line breaks, a section break, over two lines of tabs, and a bunch of spaces that were inserted with the space bar. First, look at the two headings. If so, click it. It will highlight the hidden table. Once you can see the table borders, you can drag the cell border to shrink the row that is causing the white space below the heading. When you are finished, follow the same directions as above, but on the Borders tab, select None. Only this time, change the Before spacing. I hope this helps!
